Bahaao is a tale of a civilization long forgotten, buried by time under the pages of history. Tarar Sb has told the story of a people that lived centuries ago on the banks of the Ghagra, a tributary of the Indus. It is a story of the days when Mohenjo Daro was at the peak of its glory and had now started its journey downwards. It is a story of the death that came when the river changed its course and Nature took the life source of the people away from them.
Tarar Sb has painted every scene so vividly and with such rich imagery you can almost feel the heat of the sun over your head and the thirst choking your breath. You can see the walls and structures of Mohenjo Daro standing mightily without any idea of the fate to come. The amount of research that went into the writing of Bahaao is well evident from every single line. Bahaao is a metaphor of the dilemmas of today. Water shortage is not a thing from stories anymore and we have much of today’s populace suffering from it.
The book starts off a bit slow and I didn’t think it was something i would come to love. And I’m not going to lie, the explicit scenes and language left me more than slightly uncomfortable. But I’m so thankful i kept going. It was one of the rare instances I’m honestly glad i was wrong. The dilemma of modern age where we are
Nonetheless, Bahaao is tale like none other and deserves every bit of praise it gets.

Bahao by Mustansar Hussain Tarar was a very difficult book for me to read.. it took me forever to get into the story because the book starts off slow but once the plot picked up pace, i couldn’t put it down. Tarar sahab painted a beautiful yet heartwrenching picture of mohenjodaro with his prose. Written with countless metaphors, this book is both relevant and impactful and must be read by all especially now when we ourselves are at the verge of water shortage.. the story starts with a bird in search for water and its struggle resonated with me at so many levels.. the way tarar sahab wrote the dilemma of a bird in flight felt surreal and it’s death left me shook… this book is a hidden gem in urdu literature and i am so thankful for parhai Likhai for sending this outstanding book my way.. i recommend this book to everyone who is looking for a book that is both hard hitting and entertaining.

Review: This novel works like a metaphor at the moment. In this novel, Tarar has discussed the transfer of ancient civilization. Civilizations have their remains but they do not have a real history today. Through this writing, several lessons were given to the readers who had to create a strong imagination in the minds while reading it. After reading main crux is new ideas are necessary for the survival of societies simply because they simulate the destruction of civilizations. The novel is a beautiful description of history and civilization. This can be considered a mature story based novel and tells us how the life and society sink and everything ends with out leaving any symbol and history … #rabiareads #mustansarhussaintarar
