“Defiant Colours” introduces a selection of poems by Kishwar Naheed, and carries a sampling of her range of style and themes. there amy be no immediate surprise in this poetry as, to begin with, many of the poems originate in the familiar. It is once one has ventured deeper that the moss-rock becomes slippery, ready to send one plummeting to unexpected depths. Kishwar Naheed, one of the leading poets of Pakistan, is a topographer of discomforting experiences, fragile and splintered relationships, and of private sorrows overshadows or underpinned by public events.

Defiant colors, by kiswar naheed a poet from pakistan, who drenches her heart in this book, praises her roots. A book so true to its name, Defiant..defiance…دلیر. A book which forces you to travel time with it, in a way that you’ll find yourself confused but rather amazed. Your eye blinks and you are in the hearts of the Brave. You blink your eyes and you see the struggle and bravery of people when this country was in the process, you open your eyes and slowly you are seeing this baby rise, with struggle and its people’s brave hearts.Your coffee smells like gunshots because defiant colors has taken you with her to the journey of time, the journey of bravery, defiant colors is breaking the norms, dropping truth bombs, telling the society the Bravery of a women, the daleiry(دلیری) of a women. The big hearts of the women and the rather unfortunate generation which is to come. You see, this book will let you see things with the perspective of old, young, women, mother and everyone. A book which makes you travel time from the cryings of the children in pakistan to the crying of the old in afghanistan. From the beauty of a new land to the helpless hands begging the new to be nice, from empowering women to dropping truth bombs in a way that you’ll fell in love with your self. This book is a mixture of everything you can think, you see pakistan growing, you see the lowest of this country, you see the arrival of technology and the coming distance between relations,a poetry book translated in english. I am amazed how beautifully its written and translated. Read. Do read it.
