Deosai: Land of the Giant tells the story of Deosai, its geography and history as well as the heroic effort of bear conservation and the establishment of a national park on the plateau. This publication of this book symbolises the hope that the efforts to bring the Tibetan Brown Bear back from the brink of extinction, begun in the late 1980s, will not go waste and that future travellers will see groups of bears roaming on Deosai without persecution.

Deosai is the second highest plateau on earth after the plateau of Tibet.”Deosai the land of the giant”,is one of the best Travel and photography books I have ever read, the book tells about the heroic effort of bear conservation and the establishment of national park.It gives us hope that one day,the bear will roam freely on the plateau and will have no fear of persecution.Deosai is covered in snow for most part of the year, when snow clears up it is accessible from Skardu and Astore valley.Recently Himalayan Wildlife Foundation has been established to secure the survival of the brown bear and monitor their population. The animals like ibex, red fox, wolf, snow leopard also thrive in Deosai Plateau. When I was reading the book, the beautiful pictures and breathtaking scenes made me think that I was there in the mountains of Skardu,The lakes of Swat,The resort of Shangri-La,to Gilgit Baltistan the paradise of climbers.By reading this book I travelled The Northern Areas of Pakistan from by writing desk. The deosai bear became endangered as Its meat and body parts were used for treatments. Many historical stories are present like the gold-digging ants to collecting gold dust. The rich flora and fauna and the temperature ranging from 40 Celsius in summer to -10 Celsius in winter.Deosai is the land of beauty and a paradise for travellers.I loved this book so much,It is so amazing and the pictures are breathtaking. The photography is so good!

Deosai is a beautiful place. The locals call it ” Ghabyarsa ” meaning Summer’s Place as during winters its fully covered with snow. Much needs to be done starting with educating people being top priority. People need to ensure no garbage is thrown. They need to learn that Govt is trying to preserve bears and they should not go beyond allowable passages. No hotels to be made. Its beauty is in its virgin, barren but green in summers and white in winters. Since tourism trend to Gilgit-Baltistan is on the increase, which is good in a way, but sponsored and well telecasted awareness drives to preserve and keep nature clean in our heaven on earth, North.
