Review of ‘Raja Gidh’
By Malik Abdullah Awan

Raja Gidh is master piece which draws the attention of reader towards some crucial factors of human nature .. .
.
This novel has four sections and each one is full of deep meanings and lessons .. It depicts self centered human nature which is somehow like vultures who eat meat of dead animals and humans love to take advantage of emotionally disturbed people .. .
.
The main characters in the novel are Qayyum , Semi Shah and Aftaab ..
.
Semi fell in love with Aftab and because of a few conditions Semi couldn’t marry Aftab and semi couldn’t endured this loss and become sincerely steamed and powerless ..
.
Qayyum (Silent lover), in this season of gloom and loneliness , he thought to get her & took physical favour of Semi Shah however as dependably failed in candidly forming her adoration feeling towards him because although Semi got physically involved with him but mentally n emotionally she was always with Aftab & failed to get satisfaction ..
Qayyum’s craving continued moving him towards the wrong direction and at the end, he was left only with lament & life full of disappointment and loneliness ..
Bano Qudsia greatly & thoroughly clarifies the antagonistic impacts of *Rizq-e-haraam* on human’s qualities & change process which results in prompting madness and irregularity and then hereditarily exchanged to next ages ..
.
The other important characters are Prof. Sohail , Abida (Fav chulbula character ?), amtul & roshan ..
.
I highly recommend this materpiece and I m damn sure you will love reading this .. ??

When education voyage ends up at the destination of unfulfilled love then mostly humans turned into vultures. A vulture , who don’t hunt for his food rather he rely on natural causes of death to provide him with a meal.As in case of humans then he is an absolute erotic predator who ruthlessly exploits others.
Bano Qudsia , an urdu novelist who has touched many hearts through her superlative writings. She is from one of those convincing spiritualist who has actually impacted many beings out there.Raja Gidh , is her one of the notable work which came into existence in 1981 and it’s editions are still coming. Writer’s like her may left us but if we had ever read any of their scribbling then it’s impossible to forget them as of their eloquent words. They did an absolutely amazing job and their novels like these do count as an remarkable contribution especially for young generations like us.As they guide us in many ways.
Anyhow, moving to the novel. Raja Gidh, truly depicts the verity of every era comprises the so called university attractions and how these attractions ruined one’s life. Basically , the factor of love is drafted. That how one falls in love and the different phases from which the lover has to go through. How every phase affects the intensity of a lover and then ultimately how the lover accepts that he has crossed every limit by turning into an vulture.Once again extremely swaying the readers by narrating how one’s becomes a vulture and all sort of phases/situations that leads one to predating is narrated by the Buzzard itself named as Quyum. Beyond the love flings , the writer enlightened upon numerous untold moral & ethical issues.
Semi Shah, contemporary girl who was an attraction to many of the boys in her sociology class as of her confidence and dress sense but fate made her falls in love with the boy Aftab.A man who belongs to a kashmiri family so naturally he was as charming as a kashmiri boy should be.The ignition of love was given by their Prof. Sohail , an liberal teacher who itself was somewhere attracted by semi shah. Anyways, his permissive talks lead Aftab & Semi in assertions which steer them into relation-ship.Their affair didn’t lasts longer because of Aftab’s family values and either today or by tomorrow he had to surrender himself infront of his Parent’s wish so he did earlier by marrying a girl of their choice. Aftab has loved Semi like anything but as he renege so he left for london with his wife to london for the sake of his family business as well. Whereas , the narrator , the real vulture , Quyum , who was duped by the love of Semi Shah took the betrayal of Aftab as an opportunity and entered in semi’s life.
Quyum has also always loved Semi but he never had this much aplomb to confess his feelings.Thou, his feelings were going rampant which directs him to a buzzard at the end of the day. And once we taste the forbidden thing somewhere our moral sense do die.Same happens with Quyum , he predates Semi. A girl, who was languished. Quyum exploits her in all ways in the name of aftab. As a consequence , she dies. So , for both Semi & Quyum their love remained incomplete forever which ultimately rugged Quyum lust even more.
Aabda , a married woman who discloses those causes behind women who left their husband’s house and why rare of them go for aphrodisiac. A chuckle some woman who shared her grouses with Quyum at nights about her husband who doesn’t bother to her presence and doesn’t show willingness for having a child.Bano Qudsia acutely demonstrate the stories of those submissive women (Wives) who could go to any limit for the sake of their marriage. And sometimes the desire of anything like saving our relationships even leads us to the misdeed. The point Bano wants us to get is , it’s all depends upon us that whether we choose right path or wrong path. Whatever the circumstances are , the power of decision is always in man’s hand. The only thing one wants or one wished for is LOVE. Love and Money has one thing common which is lust , if somebody get addicted to it then HE DON’T LOOK WHETHER HIS WAY OF EARNING IS HARAM OR HALAAL. All he wants is that thing either money or love.
Haram Rizq , third section of the book depicts the story of prostitute named Amtal , a middle aged mild woman who also edifies the narrator. Basically , life of different social status prostitutes are showed. Like , Amatal who belonged to Middle Class. The kind of things she has to go through , the situations she has to faced and the circumstances that guides her to this way is being depicted. She portrayed all those rationales for which a middle class girl is constrained to do such things .And how a prostitute is treated on the basis of their social class is outlined.
Later on, Amatal was killed by her son on the name of their GHAIRAT (Dignity). Like we get to listen every other day. Before listening to other person , we KILL them on the name of SO CALLED HONOR. Like for Real! Anyhow , the saddest thing is the novel was written in 1989 and it’s 2019. Could you believe? The Society , The classes on which we all sway is still SAME as of 1989. What else has changed? The only difference is we are bold enough to kill aboveboard. Other than that , human is behind human or should i say Human is killing human is one of the reason behind the insanity of a vulture.
The anecdote of Hazrat Adam is being told , the actual logic behind Haram & Haalal. As when a human was born , he was pure and he only comprises virtuousness. But the day , Hazrat Adam took bite of that forbidden thing, on that day the very first time Haram thing goes into his body. And from where wickedness actually rises up. Despite that , it’s being depicted in the novel that birds learn double dealing from humans.Anyhow , vulture is loony because of the Haram he had in his blood.
How the Haram passes through out the generation and how it affects one’s life.Either if one never wanted to go for wrong , he would because of the haram he has in blood. One could actually never get rid of it.Because it is the kind of addiction who sometimes took one’s whole life to eliminate from his blood.
P.S JAZAKALLAH HU MIN KHYRIN for sending me this master piece. I am honored!

HAPPY READING EVERYONE! ?
Banno Qudsiya is one of the most famous writer of urdu literature also known as Banno Appa. She is quite famous because of her unique writing style and themes which she choose to write about.
This 88 year old writer gained fame by the hand of her famous novel “Raja gidh”. Story of the novel revolves around four main characters: Semi shah, Qayyum, Aftab and Professor Sohail.
The story starts with the lecture of Professor sohail. Semi shah, qayuum and aftab were his students.Semi shah was not such a beautiful girl because of her appearance, but her intellectual chrisma attracted all the three main characters and they ended up falling in love with her. Their love stories evolve in such a beautiful way and rise feelings of piety and sadness among the readers.
It is also said that the writer was quite impressed by romantic writers and was fond of their style , as we see the glimpse of it’s adaptation in this novel’s themes which include: Beauty of nature as well as characters, unatainable desires, love and there is also a touch of mysticism.Other two main themes of the novel, which are not under the influence of romanticsim includes: Rizak-e-Halal and Haram and the hereditary genes transtimiton theory.
The title of the novel is itself very smbolic it means the “vulture king”. The happening events of the sub plot and the deeds in which Aftab indulges in the main plot are the symbol of haram. Where as Qayum also indulges into many haram relations with other female characters, which was also against society notions. Qudsiya claims, when haram becomes a part of natural or spiritual nature of human beings or is added into any Financial matter, It creates unbalnce in human nature cause sense of madness and disability, which is later on passed unto next generation.
Although this is the main and a different theme which she conveyed beautifully, still I did not find this novel much appealing, I did not really like the story overall and the ending. For me it was not such a good novel as I thought it would be. After reading this I wondered why people praise her writings so much where as it disappointed me. However, I have started reading ” Hasil ghaat” by Banno Qudsiya which is going great so far. Maybe “Raja gidh” was not my cup of tea but Banno Qudsiya really is.

Raja gidh is one of most famous and rear novel by Bano Qudsia.
She explained and criticized various aspects of our society. She narrated these aspects through birds.
It teaches us that what is hilal and what is haram. It is social as well as a psychological novel. Its a journey fron ishq e majazi to ishq e haqiq.
Bano Quodsia tells us that unreachable love only takes you to journeys with no destination. It is story of Qouyom And Simi. Quoyom character shows us difference between hilal and haram
I will rate it 5 and recommend it to every sensitive reader.
You can read it a million times and still not get bored

A huge thanks to Parhai Likhai for sending me this beautiful book. I loved reading it so much! Here’s my review of the book (it contains SPOILERS. Read it on your own risk):
The shortest way to describe this novel would be to say that it is a study in madness and death, and the correlation that these two enjoy, in living beings. I say living beings because humans are not the only subject of this book. As its name indicates, Raja Gidh – The King Buzzard, it is as much about the quest for the reasons of madness in birds as it is about humans. And the way Bano Qudsia juxtaposes the two together is simply amazing. In fact, she does not just limit it to a mere comparison, sometimes the characters themselves metamorephose into either the greedy buzzards waiting for its prey to die and present itself as its hearty meal, and sometimes into the prey themselves, slowly giving up on life as it becomes too burdensome for them.
Qudsia’s characters are surrealistic – you can only relate to them if you have ever spared a moment in your life to really contemplate your existence or the usefulness or the futility of it. They way each of them looks at the concepts of madness and death, or sometimes suicide, and how they interlink the two is just awe-inspiring.
I love Qudsia’s female characters and there’s an abundance of them in this novel. They are bold, real and complicated. They are not afraid to demonstrate their abilities to think, reflect on life and its complexities, and evolve. Neither do they shy away from showing a raging appetite for sex and/or food. I love the author’s comments on the similarities between hunger for food and sex and how the society seems to take the show of appetite for one by women to be indicative of the craving for the other. This, by the way reminds me how Mohammad Hanif has totally stolen this concept from Bano Qudsia to adorn his novel Our Lady of Alice Bhatti. Another total rip-off that I spotted was how Mohsin Hamid has directly copied the dynamics of the relationship between the protagonist and one of the female characters of this book and shamelessly pasted them in his book, The Reluctant Fundamentalist. The character traits of the two female characters, and the dilemma that they suffer from are just too similar: both of them suffer from the loss of their beloveds, both exhibit withdrawn, semi-mad personalities. Similarly both the male protagonists fall deeply in love with the women pining after other guys who are either dead or gone. And both try to reinstate them by pretending to act like the guys they love while having sex with them. I don’t know if you agree with me on this or not but the similarities between the two are two striking to ignore. No wonder Pakistani fiction writers always seem wary of their Anglophone counterparts.
Leaving Anglophone Pakistani writers at whatever they are doing and coming back to the original, I would like to say that this one sent me on a complete emotional roller-coaster ride. I would term Qudsia’s writing as violent. I do so because she has the ability to jerk you awake from your oft-times self-induced and much-coveted emotional slumber and make you stand face to face with the emotions you have been clearly trying to ignore for a long time. I cried on so many places in this novel not because what was being described was overly tragic but because how sensitive and sense-awakening it was. It was like someone was poking and prodding all the deep places in my heart that I keep safely hidden away. Oh it felt painful! Yes, it did! But at the same time, so very blissful! Having your heart poked at feels really good sometimes especially if the one who’s trying to split it open is none other than maestro Bano Qudsia herself.
I would like to discuss the characters of the book a bit more because I’m so not done yet. The protagonist Qayyum is one of the strangest and non-herolike characters I’ve ever read about in a book. He goes on about life in a casual sort of a way, having no particular goal or direction in his mind. His only redeeming quality is his ability to show great compassion for people who are in need of it. But the writer constantly reminds us that he belongs to the family of the buzzards and therefore we keep questioning his intentions all along. We ask whether those seemingly acts of love and selflessness spring out of the goodness of his heart or from his constant inner wish to satisfy his emotional and spiritual greed by feeding off of other people’s exhausted and decaying emotional beings.
The female characters that frequent his life define different phases of spirituality and madness of it for him. Simi, the girl belonging to the elite class who he falls desperately in love with, is the first one to enter his life and taint it with madness. They enjoy a give-and-take relationship with each other in that he provides with a substitute for her lost love by pretending to be her lover when they have sex, while she provides him with the hope that she would finally fall in love with him, which she never does bt the way. In a way they both use each other as they slowly trotter their way to madness.
The second woman that enter his life is a crude, lower-class woman the human-buzzard uses to assuage his sexual desires all the while hoping to achieve some kind of spiritual elevation in the process, while she uses him to conceive a child she so desires as her infertile, good-for-nothing husband cannot provide her with one.
Amtul, the old and withered prostitute belonging to the middle class, enters his life just because they both are in a desperate need for companionship. Despite her being a prostitute, they don’t share a physical relationship with each other. They are just there for one an other to fulfill their much greater need for human companionship. And since he doesn’t, or cannot, cosume her emotionally, they both forge a bond based on camaraderie and equality. And therefore, they both fall into the category of buzzards; they cannot feed on each other yet they both are aware that they are of the predator lot.
The fourth and the last woman that graces the stage of our protagonist’s life is his wife. This one he hopes to dump all his emotional baggage on and emerge as a new man altogether, ready to take life seriously after all. Unfortunately, she’s not having any of that as she’s already in love with another man and is carrying his child as well. Our hero, however, isn’t overly bothered by it, exhausted as he is by life and its challenges. He accepts his defeat here too and lets the woman go with her lover. He decides to live his life alone after devouring on so much emotial-meat of others.
I absolutely loved reading this novel and can’t wait to read more books by the author.

Mariam Malik –
One of the most defining books of Urdu literature that i don’t think myself worthy of critiquing. Lets get this clear from the beginning, Raja Gidh is not your average novel of two people falling in love. It is a book of philosophy that builds itself on the foundations of today’s society and uses the protagonists as its standing ground.
We are introduced to Qayyum a guy from a village, who falls in an unrequited sort of love with a university fellow Seemi. The one sided nature of his love followed by the death of Seemi make Qayyum walk the roads to insanity. It is Qayyum who is metaphorically presented as the Raja of Gidhs.
Bano Qudsia picks apart thread by thread the flaws in the structure of the society that we like to stay oblivious to and pretend they don’t even exist. In doing so she goes through the same road taken by philosophers of every era and tries to decipher the mystery of human insanity. She walks Qayyum through hell and by the end leaves him not entirely sane but not completely sane either. The comparison between vultures and man is a sickening but possibly the most accurate description of man and his tendency to destroy. To crave the destruction of everything for his own sake.
Raja Gidh is nothing if not perfection and a book everyone needs to read at least once in their lifetime.

Today Lets talk about the Legend of Urdu writing No one other than Bano Qudsia. I’ve heard so much praising about her books, So this is my first book of her.
Book Review_📖
.
Bano Qudsia has wrote this novel at the concept of Halaal & Haram, & Ishq-e-lahasil. The Gidh is the urdu word for vulture & Raja means The king. The name anticipates the kingdom of vultures. Vultures used to eat carcasses of dead animals & because of there feeding ‘haraam’ not only they but their upcoming generations suffered. She gave this perspective relating to vultures if you get involved in something forbidden from God you’ll lost your peace of mind, on quoting this as a serious ethical, social or religious issue.
Synopsis: The story begins at the Govt Collage Lahore with Seemi Shah, Aftab & the story narrator Qayyuum, attending the MA sociology class. Seemi Shah was a modern independent girl by whom not only most of the boys are attracted but even their Sociology professor was charmed by her existence.
Seemi falls in love with her class fellow Aftab who was related from a Kashmiri family. When she demands for marriage the guy denied her to telling that his family would never ever gave him the authority to getting married outside.
.
Plot: So the long story of separation was started from there. When Aftab has left Seemi & was getting married with his cousin. After this incident Seemi totally back off from her life & studies, Qayyuum tried so hard to console her grief, but failed. When he gets involved doing sin, from this part Qayyuum took himself into a wrong path for walking in run of ‘lahasil’ & ‘haraam’. It portraits the reasons of his dis satisfied & catastrophic life.
.
Bano Qudsia has completely mesmerised me with this masterpiece. The journey of being lost to find your self isn’t so easy, there are so many things defined in book. When you consume haraam’ which consequences you’ve to face, How to not act sin’ after being betrayed by someone. How to Deal with depression, anxiety. These are the common problems with people living in this society. This book is worth reading.

Saddaf Sohail –
Urdu literature and it’s progress will forever be indebted to many authors and Mohtarma Bano Qudsia Sahiba is one at the top of the list. Her literary works stand out among all. She provides a very powerful meaning underlying all her writings which incites the reader with more than their expectations.
She belonged to an era when a new born country was struggling and seeking out to prove its own identity in all dimensions including the literary horizon of Urdu literature.
Among her work, Raja Gidh can hold the crown being the most impeccably and beautifully crafted piece of literature that depicts human psyche with absolute perfection including struggle, unrequited love, pain, sadness and humor.
It is a combination of many emotions and experiences and the one thing it endorses all along is the subject of haram and halal, which makes it a favourite for those with an inquisitive mind towards the logics of our religion. This novel not only indicates towards the long-trem effects of “Rizq-e-Haraam” on the lives of human beings ,but also helps in revealing some of the main reasons for dissatisfied and catastrophic life. (Stands true even to this day). The novel discusses the purpose of human existence in beautiful underlined tones.
Writer has compared the human nature with the a Gidh (Vulture) in the book and explained to the reader how humans at times are just like the distested Gidh, who likes to feed on weak, disturbed and emotionally dead people. In oder to gain what is beyond their grasp they often choose the forbidden path which leads to earn Rizq-e-haraam. Rizq e Haraam is not only being used in the monetary terms but also as actions and deeds etc. The writer explained how at times the effects of Rizq-e-haraam are so adverse on human’s genes mutation process, leading to insanity and abnormality which is then genetically transferred to next generations.
“Ishq–e-Lahasil” (love without gains) is the next stressed upon aspect of this novel. Which the writer has again connected beautifully to the main concept behind the novel as how the desire for forbiddens always lead a person in earning rizq-e-haraam which in turn destroyes one’s life and at the end the person is left alone with nothing except his discontented life.
The characters of Qayyum and Semi Shah in the novel where Qayyum is a middle class member of society who falls in love with Semi Shah, who is a liberal and beautiful women in love with someone else. Qayyum takes advantage of Semi at a time when she is depressed, emotionally weak and upset, but remains unsuccessful in winning her heart. He ran after what was never meant for him without the consideration of right and wrong and at the end was left alone with nothing but regret and dissatisfaction.
This novel helps us understand the concept and effects of Rizq-e- haram and its effects that are unfortunately very much evident in the world around us today. We are more likely to prosper and and become a great society if we learn to believe in Allah and the fate decided by him.
This book has all the ingredients fit for a master piece. Its thought provoking, inquisitive and thorough. I strongly recommend, it’s perfect and a must read. I also believe that this book should be translated into other languages as well so that the world as a whole could benefit from it.

One of the most impactful and complex books Ive ever read. The concept of Haraam and Halal and the trial of vultures , a middle classed man; Qayyum’s life written as a beautiful journey of unfruitful love, lust, desire ,self seeking and fear. Most importantly it highlights the social issues and struggles faced by men and women of different backgrounds and classes. The mystery of human madness remains the main point of discussion throughout the story. Gives out a lot of lessons about life. A must read for anyone feeling lost.

So i just finished reading this masterpiece by Bano Qoudsia that was sent to me by Parhai Likhai for review and right now I’m completely blown away.Though the plot is what I’d be calling our ‘daily life’ but the intensity of the way its penned down will stay with me for a while.
I honestly loved the book beyond words. This book is extremely real and will hit you with bitter truths of society right in the feels.
Plot:
Two fundamental issues: ‘Rizq e haraam’ and ‘ishq e lahasil’ have been discussed thoroughly in the book.
While talking about ‘rizq e haram’ Bano maam is at her best in convincing the reader that In trying to gain what is beyond his/her destination, one often chooses the forbidden path which leads him to earn rizq-e-haraam. Then the aftermath of this action results in distorting and uncomforting life ahead. This process becomes so natural and unnerving that it eventually becomes a part of our daily life and is inherited by the next generations.
And the second point ‘Ishq e lahasil’ is expressed by the story of ‘Qayyum and Semi Shah’. Semi is completely shattered and heartbroken and Qayyum takes this opportunity to take advantage of this situation. But in this journey to get what he wants and precisely what is not meant for him, Qayyum finds himself walking in the wrong direction.
And has anyone ever found peace while being on the dark side? –

Banu Qudsia is a name which is dear to Urdu literary circle. That’s what I had in mind a few years ago when I tried to read Raja Gidh. To be very honest with you, I didn’t understand what it’s about back then so I left after a few chapters. Ah! The naive stupid me… It certainly isn’t a novel a 16 year old would enjoy as one of her first novels. But I had a chance to read it again. This time, with a perspective of someone who has matured a bit and my mind was BLOWN AWAY. The intricacies, the way Bano Apa has merged the main story with the one with going on in the jungle, and the message of the story… It’s truly an eye opener. The one thing that’s particularly interesting is the discourse between Qayyum and his professor. The journey of discovering yourself through intermingling religious and scientific theories…how did she do that? I’ll forever be in awe.
The mystic touch and the ambience of the scenes takes you to another time and place. This is totally one of the books that should be read and reread at different stages of life.

The book starts with a basic question that deals with ‘Ishq e lahasil’ which then moves on to more metaphysical concepts of ‘Halaal and haram’ and what intrigued me was the theory of the effect of what you eat and do on your genetic makeup. I read this at a very young age, and later on in medical school I came across studies that verify that the human DNA(GENES) are constantly evolving and changing.I am not saying that the concept of haraam intake disrupting your genetic makeup is correct,I am just implying how well the book mixed the scientific world with the metaphysical and depicted how haraam acts by one generation can effect their descendants.
The effortless way in which Bano apa has depicted the rot within our society and linked us with the ‘gidh'(vulture), while writing this in the most easy to understand urdu surprised me. I plan on re-reading this soon since I believe I will be able to understand this in more depth. That said,Raja Gidh is one of the most iconic works in the Urdu language and what impressed me more is that she explains the most controversial topics in a way that has no shock value to it.As you read the novel, you find yourself accepting the reality she is depicting. If an author can do that, without the attention seeking use of shock generating tactics, that to me shows that the person writing this has immense control over their writing skill and obviously gains great respect in my eyes.
In short
Must read. Worth Re-reading .
I am giving 4 starts since there are certain concepts of Bano apa about women that I am skeptical about.

Raja Gidh has always been one of my all time faves and the philosophy it beholds bewitches me.
Once, I came across Bano’s biography. Her life. Her works. Her university times. Her first written-novel. Her first interaction with Ishfaq Ahmad (Her Husband) and how she started writing.
In all those things, what got my attention was *Writing Raja Gidh*
Bano tells, how once a Christian man came to live in their house, as a guest.
Once while they were having lunch, he asked her, ‘What makes Islam unique from other religions? Why should we prefer it over others?”
Bano was silent. Even she couldn’t think of a satisfactory answer.
She wanted to find an answer to tell him. To tell him how Islam was distinct and the BEST. But she didn’t know how to.
She asked her Husband, ‘What do I tell him?’
He said, ‘Search for it. From within’
This kept her busy for a few days. It irked her. She wanted the answer.
She tells, that one day she was standing under the shade of a tree that was in the lawn of their house, thinking about the same question.
Then, at that lapse of moment, she heard an almost whisper, coming from that old, old tree,
‘Halal Rizq.
Halal. Haram.’
And it clicked.
Halal and Haram. The difference between HALAL and Haram. The idea of Halal Rizq.
That was when ‘Raja Gidh’ breathed life and was inked by Bano.
Raja Gidh is not about a lower-middle class boy Qayyum. It’s not about Seemi, hailing from a modern family of ruined bases or about Professor Suhail who’s explicitly genius with thoughts, or about Aftab who’s a prey to his own dilemma.
No.
Raja Gidh is YOU. It’s actually the narration of the society ‘we’ make. *We*.
It’s about the ethical boundaries we restrict ourselves into, but then break it because the “Haram” in it allures us.
It’s the philosophical debate over the ‘bads’ of our societies, and how, we too, condemn those wrongs but we pay no contribution in taming those wrongs.
It’s a perfect, vivid and lucid picturization of ‘All that you sow, so shall you reap.’
If we indulge into lasciviovis feats, the unchastity will hold us, Forever. We WILL have to pay for that.
Impuring a thing won’t let us have a pure one in return.
And this Haram can travel through generations too.
Portrayed in a metaphorical illustration of a Kingdom of Birds and Vultures, Blended with spirituality and supernaturalism, this book is a WORTH READ AND A MUST READ.
Bano has written each word with so much power and responsibility, that it etches its image into your imagination.
The description of the society, the norms, the cultures, the perspectives of different people, the confinement of their ideas and the beautiful picture of Lahore, penned by Bano, is what makes Raja Gidh one of the celebrated works in Classical literature.
I’ll give this five out of five stars.
And will recommend every person in his/her late teens to have a must read. It gives more grip to your ideas and disciplines your thoughts.

I haven’t read many urdu books but the few ones I’ve read were heart-wrenching and somewhat triggering still I have learnt a great deal from them. Reading something in your native language can be more exciting and effecting compared to reading in another language. This exceptional book was recommended to me by my professor and it motivated me to get into it. I wont say much about the story and try to remain spoiler-free. It was really impressing to know how the writer has explained and discussed the flaws of our society. I think that I didn’t like was; even after reading YA English books reading some adult stuff in urdu literature was triggering because I’ve never experienced this kind of passages in urdu books. other than that, it was a beautiful and self-learning journey and I would recommend it to people who are mature enough to read and handle all the triggers.
